Kindergarten is a big transition for everyone. Children moving from Preschool to Kindergarten have many adjustments including a full day of school, a larger number of classmates, focusing on instruction for a longer amount of time, less adult attention, and eating lunch in the cafeteria. Parents and families must adjust to having to say goodbye to their child out on the playground instead of walking them to their classroom, keeping up with more events, organizing lunch money, and communicating with their child's teacher more through notes or email instead of face to face.
Kindergarten students at TCA get the benefit of five different 'specials' classes including Art, Music, Gym, and Fitness. Learning through play is a large part of our program. I set up a variety of planned activities during choice time in order to facilitate language development, emergent writing skills, math and science discoveries, and positive social interactions.
